Mithras in Stockstadt - the height of the Oriental cult under the Severan emperors
Temple at the harbour road in Stockstadt
Silver votive plaque - the killing of Mithras' steer
The Saalburg fort was reconstructed as an open-air museum in the 19th century under the initiative of Emperor Wilhelm II. From 2003-2009 further reconstructions were added, including a workshop that displays temporary exhibits. A 2.4km long walk, the "Rundweg Saalburg" at the "Limeserlebnispfad Hochtaunus" leads to archaeological sites near the fort. The Saalburg is a supraregional museum dedicated to the Limes in Hessen, and is the seat of the Limesinformationszentrum Hessen. For historical reasons the Saalburg also has many finds from the Bavarian Stockstadt a. M.
