The permanent exhibit provides an archaeological overview of 120,000 years of settlements in Bavaria. The Roman department "Römerzeit" was re-opened in August 2010. Room 7 displays finds from the military and civilian life in the Roman provinces Raetia and Noricum. In the courtyard the spectacular floor mosaic from Westerhofen, near Ingolstadt can be viewed.
Finds from the Main Limes region are presented in special exhibits, for example the exhibit "The Limes World Heritage Site. Rome's frontier at the Main", which was displayed from April 4th-September 14th, 2008.
