The living quarters of the "villae
rusticae" were first built of wood, and later. beginning in the
mid-second century, of stone. The living style changed and became
more luxurious. Floor heating, baths,
and dining rooms were characteristic of the Mediterranean
The dining room - "triclinium" - was a rectangular room with three recliners, three "klinae". The host - "patronus" - and his guests reclined on the couches while dining. A klinai has been reconstructed here.
