Olive oil from Spain

Many amphora shards were found in Seligenstadt. Containers to transport olive oil from Spain were dumped here.

Olive oil as a key element of the kitchen and as the basis for oil lamps was evidence of a Mediterranean lifestyle. A cohort was stationed here in Seligenstadt. It consisted of Roman citizens, for whom olive oil was apparently extremely important.

Linseed oil and poppy seed oil from the farms in the Main backlands served as a replacement for olive oil.
