was hung with the goods attached to a hook. The weight of the goods
could be determined by moving the slider mass along the horizontal
The scale - already used in Egypt - did not require a complete set of unit weights, unlike the beam balance. In this way it was possible to determine a weight more quickly and also to use different units of weight.
