A rejected jug

Mistakes occured when the clay was not properly prepared, or when the vessels were improperly fired. Often the furnace was allowed to cool down too quickly.

Imperfect wares, such as the jug from the pottery area of the Stockstadt vicus, were thrown into waste pits. Some were also sold.
