Alemanni attacks on the Main Limes around 233 AD
Shields - the most important defensive weapons
In the pit there was burnt rubble, parts of horses' harnesses, and
the boss. The shield it
belonged to was destroyed in the fire. The fact that other armour
pieces were also burnt may indicate that the fire developed
suddenly. The catastrophy, which destroyed the barracks, can be
dated by the finds to 230 AD.
Afterwards, the pits were filled with rubble and a new bath was
built at the site of the former barracks, within the fort walls.
Location
The boss was found in a pit near the barracks in Fort
Miltenberg-Bürgstadt
